Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a neurological condition, which affects movement and posture, and thus hinders a child’s development. Cerebral palsy is typically caused during pregnancy or birth. Depending on which part of the brain is injured, people suffering from CP are affected in many different ways. Jigmet has been diagnosed with spastic hemiplegia. His condition is characterized by muscle stiffness and tightness on one side of his body, caused by disturbance of signals from the brain to the muscle. Jigmet’s right arm and leg are affected and in addition to that, his right elbow has been dislocated since birth, further troubling the movement of his arm. Consequently, he has poor gait and almost lost the functionality of his right hand, leading to trouble with activities of daily living (ADL). When cerebral palsy is managed properly the impact on an individual’s life can be significantly reduced. CP patients often need lifelong physiotherapy in order to progress or maintain strength, flexibility and bone structure. For Jigmet a tailored intervention plan is being carried out.
